Our Musical Director

Robert Evans joined Brecon Singers in September 2016 as our new Musical Director. He made his London debut in 1987 at The Royal Festival Hall with the choir of The London Oratory having spent ten years in Westminster Cathedral Choir (winners of the Gramophone Record of the year in 1999). He moved to Salisbury, allowing him to concentrate on his freelance singing career, both as a soloist and as a consort singer working with The King's Consort, The Sixteen, The Cardinals Musick and The Gabrieli Consort.

Singing engagements have taken Robert to the USA, Japan, Australia and throughout Europe. Sadly an appearance of several weeks in New York only featured his hands, plaster casts of which appeared there on a mannequin.

Although Robert  spends most of his time performing Classical music, he also enjoys the lighter end of the repertoire. He has sung in the West End (Starlight Express), cabaret, jingles and film sound tracks including CrimsonTide, Sleepy Hollow, King Arthur, Pirates of the Caribbean II, The Da Vince Code and his particular favourite, Muppet Treasure Island.

Our Assistant Musical Director

Alan Davies has joined us in September 2016 as Assistant Musical Director. Alan has been a prominent musician and teacher in the South Powys area for the last twenty six years.  He has enjoyed playing cello in many orchestral and chamber music concerts as well as being in demand as a piano accompanist to which he brings a notable sensitivity and musicianship.  He is the founder of South Powys Youth Music and teaches cello, double bass and piano at Christ College.  He has recently started teaching adults who have always wanted to learn cello and directs a string orchestra for adult learners.  He has also recorded piano, cello and the occasional train whistle for a project with his wife Kath to produce music materials for pre-school children.
