Brecon Singers Welcome New Musical Directors

Brecon Singers' autumn season is off to a flying start with their appointment of  Musical Director, Robert Evans and Assistant Musical Director and Accompanist Alan Davies.

Robert Evans is an experienced musician and professional singer who started as a chorister in Hereford Cathedral, went on to study Clarinet at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama then singing with Henry Cummings and Norman Bailey. He sings with many highly respected choirs including The Sixteen, The Cardinalls Musick, The Kings Consort and The Gabrieli Consort. He has also sung in The West End and on film tracks including Pirates of The Caribbean! Robert's wealth of musical experience and creative energy will be a great asset to the choir who look forward to exciting times ahead.

Alan Davies has been a prominent teacher and musician in Powys for the last twenty six years. He is the founder of South Powys Youth Music, teaches cello, double bass and piano at Christ College and has recently started directing a String Orchestra for adult learners. In addition he and his wife Kath are developing a project to produce teaching materials for pre-school children which will include recordings of his piano and cello playing. Partnering Alan's notable sensitivity and musicianship with Robert's musical experience, energy and flair promises to be inspirational for the Singers who look forward to fine singing this season.

Brecon Singers will be performing Handel's Messiah in Brecon Cathedral on Saturday 19th November in memory of David Gedge who founded Brecon Cathedral Singers fifty years ago. With first class soloists and orchestra this much loved work is sure to be a popular choice for concert goers as winter draws in. Brecon Singers' festive Carols and Canapes on 19th December (carols, readings, stalls, raffle and refreshments) will be held this year in St David's Church, Llanfaes while St Mary's undergoes essential roof repairs. Don't forget to buy your tickets!
