Bach Magnificat Concert

Still buzzing after our amazing Bach concert. We were so thrilled to see the cathedral filled almost to capacity. A huge shout of thanks to Rob Evans, our incredible music director. Huge thanks as well to Alan Davies, our accompanist, who last night was our amazing cellist. We also want to thank our wonderful soloists Julie Cooper, Emily Prosser, Ben Davies, William Purefoy and Tom Robson. Wow, what beautiful voices! The orchestra was amazing...they made it easy for us to sing these difficult pieces of music. The Cantata 23 Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn is a very pretty Cantata and not often performed. The Magnificat has everything...beautiful arias, challenging runs and rousing choruses. It was all great fun and thank you to all who supported us. Thank you as well for all your compliments and we are so pleased you enjoyed it!

Our next concert will be our Christmas Concert at 630pm on 12 December in St David’s Church, Llanfaes Brecon.

Bach Magnificat Workshop by Ros Reed

On Saturday 13th over 50 singers overcame Storm Callum to attend an Interesting, educational and enjoyable workshop under the innovative tutorlege of Robert Evans, masterfully accompanied by Alan Davies.

From physical warm ups , through vocal gymnastics and unpicking of complicated passages from JSBach's Magnificat, the singers grew in confidence and capability as the day went on .

We all went home buoyed up with new vocal techniques, rehearsal 'wins' , earworm music and cake!

The concert performance can't fail to be enhanced by the days work, and it is always good to sing alongside visitors from other choirs .

Bach Magnificat Concert Poster

The poster for our Bach Magnificat Concert on 10 Nov 2018 at Brecon Cathedral is now out. Our posters and programme covers are designed by Lesley Lillywhite and the  Usk Valley Artist’s Co-operative based at the Tower Gallery, Crickhowell.  The beautiful backgound image on this poster is of a ceiling in the Palazzo Te, or by its official name Palazzo del Te. The palace was constructed 1524–34 for Federico II Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua as a palace of leisure. Giulio Romano, a pupil of Raphael, was commissioned to design the building. The frescoes are the most remarkable feature of the Palazzo done in the late Renaissance Mannerism style. You can see our poster on our Concerts and Workshops page.
